Sister Parveen Khan (Guddi) is married to writer Shaheem Jha (Saheem Jah). He wrote for the shelved film Prem Hatya starring Raj Babbar and the 1996 film Yash.

Older brother Bhanu was Gulshan Grover’s secretary. Bhanu later married Gulshan Grovers ex wife Filomina. Bhanu acted in the film Naamcheen (1991) which Mandakini was originally producing at and acting in.

Attractive, talented, young Mandakini won the hearts of millions of Indians worldwide in her performance in “Ram Teri Ganga Melli”. Thereafter her name was a household name. She starred with Mithun Chakraborty in another hit movie “Dance Dance” which won many accolades for her. Since her other passion was singing, she released two albums named: “No Vacancy”, and “Shambala”. in 1990 she married Dr. R. Thakur of Bombay, India, and since then the marriage has been intact. She has a son from this marriage.

In 1986, Mandakini released a pop disco album with Bappi Lahiri. It was titled “Dancing City”. She sang all the songs in her own voice in the album. The album was originally recorded with Nazia Hassan. After Bappi and Nazia had a major showdown, Bappi signed Mandakini and dubbed Mandakini’s voice over Nazia Hassan’s.

There was a shelved movie “Baali Umar Ko Salaam” (1983). Starring Raghu Khosla ( son of producer Ramesh Khosla), Tanvi Azmi (Replaced Mandakini after Ramesh threw her out of the film),Music by Rahul Dev Burman, Produced by Ramesh Khosla,Directed by K.Balachander.

Auditioned for Betaab in 1981 and Lava in 1983 and was rejected.
